Te Whiwhingamahi | The opportunity

Whānau Āwhina Plunket is seeking an enthusiastic and community focused Injury Prevention Coordinator to join our Community Services teams in Waikato. This role plays an important part in delivering child safety and injury prevention programmes that support whānau, strengthen communities, and contribute to better outcomes for tamariki

Working alongside whānau, volunteers, community partners, clinicaland community teams, you'll coordinate and deliver injury prevention initiatives, provide practical education and support, and promote child safety messages across your region. This includes supporting child restraint installation services, facilitating community education sessions, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders to increase access to injury prevention support, particularly for priority Māori and Pacific populations and communities experiencing greater inequities. 

We have a full time, fixed term position available, 35 hours weekly, starting as soon as possible until 25thJune 2027. No two days will look the same. You'll spend part of your time out in the community delivering programmes and supporting whānau, while also working virtually to coordinate initiatives, manage stakeholder relationships, and plan future activities.

Ngā Pūkenga me tōu Tohungatanga| Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Strong relationship-building skills and experience working with diverse communities 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience presenting information, facilitating education sessions, or engaging groups 
  • The ability to work independently while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships 
  • Well-developed planning, organisational, and time management skills 
  • A focus on continuous improvement and quality service delivery 
  • An understanding of local communities and the ability to work effectively across a range of settings 
  • A full New Zealand Driver Licence and willingness to travel throughout the region as required
  • Child Restraint Technician qualification, or willingness to complete the qualification within three months of appointment 

     

Experience working with Māori, Pacific, and other priority communities, along with an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in practice, would be highly regarded.
