Clinical Leader - PlunketLine

PlunketLine is looking for an experienced and people-focused Clinical Nurse/Leader to join our leadership team and help shape the next chapter of our virtual nursing service.

PlunketLine provides free nursing and parenting support to whānau across Aotearoa through 24/7 phone and live chat services, alongside video consultations for breastfeeding, sleep and settling support. Our services are available to all whānau, whether or not they currently receive other Whānau Āwhina Plunket services.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Our Kotahitanga, Our Strategy 2026–2031 sets a clear direction for Whānau Āwhina Plunket: Strong communities. Confident whānau. Thriving children. It commits us to providing whānau with greater choice, connected and easy-to-navigate services, trusted and relevant advice, and culturally responsive care.

PlunketLine has an important role in bringing this strategy to life. Through phone, live chat and video, we are increasing the ways whānau can access trusted nursing support when and how it works for them. Our strategy also recognises the opportunity for digital healthcare and new technology to improve access, options, customer experience and efficiency, while maintaining clinical and cultural safety.

As a Clinical Leader, you will be at the heart of delivering this.

You will lead and support a team of nurses working virtually across Aotearoa, creating the conditions for them to provide safe, responsive, relational and high-quality care for whānau.

As PlunketLine is a 24/7 service, our nurses work day and night to support whānau. This is a full-time role, and the hours can be worked between 10am and 8pm, so please let us know your preferred hours in your cover letter.

You will:

  • provide visible, supportive and consistent leadership to your team
  • coach and develop nurses to strengthen their confidence, capability and clinical practice
  • support excellent clinical decision-making and management of escalations
  • lead performance, development and competency conversations
  • foster connection, engagement and wellbeing across a predominantly virtual workforce
  • ensure culturally safe, whānau-centred and clinically safe care
  • use data, feedback and insights to identify opportunities to continuously improve the experience of whānau
  • work alongside the wider PlunketLine leadership team to strengthen and evolve our virtual services
  • contribute to how we use technology and new ways of working to make support increasingly accessible and responsive to whānau
  • ensure clinical protocols, policies, and processes are consistently followed, promoting compliance with organisational, professional, and regulatory requirements

He kōrero mōu | About you

You are an experienced nurse leader who combines strong clinical judgement with genuine investment in people. You understand that great leadership is not only about maintaining safe clinical services; it is about developing people, creating connection and continually looking for better ways to meet the needs of whānau.

You will bring:

  • a current New Zealand Nursing Council Annual Practising Certificate
  • relevant nursing and clinical leadership experience
  • demonstrated experience leading, coaching and developing clinical teams
  • strong clinical judgement and confidence managing complexity and escalation
  • experience leading and connecting a remote or geographically dispersed workforce
  • a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally responsive care
  • confidence using digital technology and supporting others through new ways of working
  • an improvement mindset and an interest in using data, insights and whānau voice to strengthen service delivery
  • the courage and curiosity to lead through change while keeping whānau at the centre of decisions
  • ensure clinical protocols, policies, and processes are consistently followed, promoting compliance with organisational, professional, and regulatory requirements

Why PlunketLine?

This is more than an opportunity to manage a nursing team. It is an opportunity to help shape how trusted nursing care is delivered virtually to whānau across Aotearoa.

As Whānau Āwhina Plunket delivers Kotahitanga, Our Strategy 2026–2031, PlunketLine will continue to play an important role in giving whānau more choice in how they access support, extending the reach of trusted advice and using digital healthcare to make our services increasingly accessible, responsive and connected.

You will join a leadership team where you can influence that future while supporting nurses to do what they do best: provide practical, trusted and meaningful support to whānau.

If you are excited by the opportunity to lead people, strengthen clinical practice and help shape the future of virtual care for whānau, nau mai, haere mai.

Please reach out to hr@plunket.org.nz if you have any pātai.
