TeWhiwhingamahi | The opportunity

We have a permanent Registered Nurse opportunity across theMid to Far North, with hours ranging from 0.6 FTE to full-time.

This is nursing that takes you into the everyday lives of whānau. Working in homes and clinics, you’ll support pēpi and tamariki from birth to five years through comprehensive assessments, health education and care planning.

You might be helping a parent understand their baby’s development, discussing feeding or sleep, identifying a health concern, or coordinating support with other services. Each interaction is an opportunity to listen, build confidence and respond to the needs and aspirations of whānau.

Working across rural communities brings variety and requires thoughtful clinical judgement, good organisation and an adaptable approach. You’ll work alongside Plunket colleagues and develop relationships with local health and community services to help whānau access the care they need.

For a new graduate, this is an opportunity to develop a strong foundation in child and whānau health. For an experienced nurse, it offers scope to apply your knowledge, deepen your community practice and contribute to better outcomes across Te Tai Tokerau.

He kōrero mōu| About you

You take time to understand people and their circumstances. You recognise the knowledge and strengths within whānau, and work in partnership with them rather than assuming what they need.

You’ll be comfortable learning, asking questions and seeking advice, while developing or bringing the confidence to manage your nursing practice. You understand that improving access to care involves recognising barriers and working with whānau and other services to address them.

A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety and equitable health outcomes is central to this mahi. Local knowledge and existing community connections are valuable, and we also welcome nurses who are new to the area and willing to listen, learn and build relationships.
