Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to work in Central Auckland full time 1.0FTE. You will meet whānau (both home visits and in clinics) and foster trusting relationships and deliver holistic, culturally appropriate and engaging care where whānau have a safe space to share parenting challenges and celebrate successes. Working in the community in a cost-of-living crisis means you will meet whānau who are facing significant challenges. Our clinical responsibilities co-exist with the need to deliver social support to ensure pēpi are being raised in safe and healthy homes. 

You will be supported through a comprehensive orientation programme and ongoing preceptor support, enabling you to grow confidently into community-based practice. You will have access to our extensive learning management system, our Professional Development Fund, and through our partnership with Whitireia, fully funded study toward the Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Health Care (Well Child Tamariki Ora Strand).

The salary band for this role is between $66,222 ($33.51 per hour) - $94,842 ($48 per hour) depending on experience.

Community Nursing requires a particular set of skills. You’ll need to be resourceful, resilient, and confident making decisions to ensure a high‑quality experience and minimise risks for clients. Strong active listening and the ability to ask questions tactfully are essential. This role requires a high level of autonomy, effective time‑management, and confidence navigating complex situations. You’ll bring strong problem‑solving skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to stay grounded under pressure.

This role is about more than just caring for pēpi — it’s about standing alongside whānau during times of hardship, uncertainty, or concern. The role involves screening for and supporting whānau who may be experiencing family harm, mental health difficulties and meeting whānau who live in different levels of deprivation. We’re looking for someone who can build trusting relationships, listen deeply, and respond with compassion and clarity. You’ll be part of a team that manages care and support thoughtfully, ensuring whānau receive the right help at the right time, grounded in equitable and Plunket values of maia, manaaki, mahaki and tuhono.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be a Registered Nurse
  • Hold the right to work in Aotearoa
  • Hold or be able to obtain an Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Hold a full or restricted clean NZ Drivers Licence
  • Strong clinical judgement and relational practice
  • Be committed to completing Post Graduate Certificate in Well Child Tamariki ora (we will pay for this)
