We support māmāpāpā and whānau during one of lifes most transformative journeys. We are currently piloting a new online service for whānau in the Waikato region providing support for whānau experiencing mild to moderate perinatal mental health challenges

We’re looking for a Mental Health Practitioner to join this pilot team. This is a part-time (0.5 – 0.7FTE) fixed term basis until January 2028.There may be opportunities for additional hours.

Given the online nature, this role can be based anywhere in Aotearoa but connections to and understanding of the Waikato region’s mental health landscape will be advantageous. Occasional travel to the Waikato region may be required.

Te Whiwhingamahi | The opportunity

You’ll be part of a team of seven working remotely to provide online therapeutic support and intervention for whānau experiencing mild to moderate perinatal anxiety and depression. You’ll complete a holistic psychosocial assessment and care plan, and utilise therapeutic models such as cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy or dialectical behaviour therapy in your approach. 

You’ll also facilitate group programmes which support whānau to nurture their mental health and wellbeing and promote secure and healthy attachment relationships with their little ones.

He kōrero mōu| About you

You may be a Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Psychotherapist, or Occupational Therapist – what matters most is your commitment to supporting whānau wellbeing and your ability to deliver safe, effective mental health care.

You’ll bring:

  • Registration under the Social Work Act 2003 or the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 or a relevant professional body
  • Experience delivering mental health support (specialisation in perinatal or infant mental health would be a bonus)
  • Confidence and experience delivering services in a virtual environment 
  • An understanding of the Waikato region – its communities, services and existing relationships in mental health and social services would be advantageous
  • Exposure to working in fast paced environments and those with clear targets and high expectations
