This is a full-time permanent position working around Dunedin, close to the birthplace of Whānau Āwhina Plunket, Karitane. If you are passionate about setting up our rangatira mō āpōpō with the best start possible, why not get paid to do it?!
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
You will play a pivotal role in achieving our Rautaki Māori through each one-to-one interaction where you will draw on mātauranga Māori alongside health promotion and education methodologies to support whānau. In order to respond best to the needs of our people you'll leverage support from multiple agencies and specialists – social workers, food banks, other community groups and our wider Whānau Āwhina services. You will also host wānanga for whānau to come together to meet, connect and learn as one.
You'll be at the forefront of on the ground relationship building in your local community, harnessing connections with local iwi, marae, Māori health providers and services.
Payrates for Kaiāwhina are between $54,933 ($27.80/hr) - $63,012 ($31.89/hr) depending on experience.
He kōrero mōu | About you
You will be a warm people person who naturally reverts to a whakawhanaungatangaapproach when meeting people. While a background in health promotion, working in a Kaupapa Māori or kōhanga reo setting would be advantageous, we will provide you with the training you need, with ongoing support from a clinical leader, a National Kaiāwhina Mentor and the wider Ngā Pou Hihiri team who support our organisation in applying Te Rautaki Māori.
Above all else you will bring with you a desire to support whānau and the community we serve to achieve equitable health outcomes, with the ability to keep our mokopuna at the centre of every decision.
Ngā pūkenga me tohunga Motuhake | Important Skills and Qualifications
You will:
- Be committed to completing the Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services - Level 4) - we will pay for this.
- hold a restricted or full New Zealand driver's license
- hold the legal right to work in Aotearoa
