Data Technical Lead

Our Data and Insights team are fortunate to support this mahi by partnering with the organisation to make use of our datasets and achieve our strategic goal of equitable service delivery. We’re now seeking a Data Technical Lead to join the team in this new permanent full time role.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Data and Insights, this is an exciting opportunity to shape our vision and impact the future of the way we work.  This is a hands on technical role covering components of data architecture where you will champion business-to-data process design with your strong data engineering skills. This includes the review, analysis and optimisation of data outputs, guiding the team on technical development of the data outputs.

You will manage the cloud platform administration and maintenance and improvement of reporting processes, alongside mentoring the team to grow their technical skillset. A key focus of the role is to partner with internal stakeholders to understand what they’re trying to solve and develop fit for purpose solutions.

As we expand our data capabilities and embed the Digital, Data and Technology Strategy, this role will also ensure our migration from on-premise to cloud-based runs smoothly.

 

He kōrero mōu | About you

We’re seeking someone with a strong mix of technical data engineering skills alongside a willingness to understand our organisational processes. Your strong stakeholder engagement, communicationand listening skills mean you’ll be adept at finding out what exactly our stakeholders need, and explaining technical concepts in an easy to understand way.

You will also be/have:

  • At least five years' experience in an enterprise data environment. 
  • Proven experience in enterprise data engineering pipelines. 
  • Experience of SQL data warehouse technologies (such as SSRS, SSIS, with an added advantage of exposure to DataBricks and Snowflake). 
  • Experience working with SSIS, Python, Git and PowerBI
  • An understanding of reporting tools (ideally a good working knowledge of Power BI). 
  • Knowledge of data warehouse modelling techniques (dimensional/Kimball modelling, data vault star schema). 
  • Experience in the development of Data Warehouses, Data Products, Reports, Dashboards, and data self-service capabilities.
