Community Karitāne - Otago (7 days a fortnight)
Babies don't come with a manual, but our Plunket people are the next best thing. How proud would it make you to be proactive in your community promoting a healthy lifestyle and working with whānau who have recently welcomed a new addition?
Join us as a Community Karitāne (Health Worker). We have a part time (7 day fortnight) permanent role available working out of our brand new King Edward Street Hub. Aside from Wednesday, we have some flexibility to consider your working pattern.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Our Community Karitāne are a key part of our team. Following on from Plunket Nurse's referrals, you'll support parents and caregivers navigate the tricky parts that come with raising tamariki, whether it is in the early days, overcoming the latest developmental leap, toilet training, starting solids, you'll become an expert in all things parentcraft related.
Your focus will be on improving health outcomes by providing health education and working in collaboration with our Plunket Nurses, Kaiāwhina and wider Plunket services to deliver wrap around support.
Payrates for Karitāne are between $54,933 ($27.80 per hour) and $63,012 ($31.89 per hour) per hour depending on experience.
He kōrero mōu | About you
Through listening and providing clear information, empathy and reassurance you will provide whānau with tamariki under 5 with the tools to manage each age and stage. A passion for working with tamariki and their caregivers is key and we will provide you with the training and support to learn the rest.
Our mahi relies on seamless teamwork - being able to loop in Nurses for clinical support, referring to our community support services for more holistic care, and reminding our whānau that we're a call away 24/7 through our PlunketLine service - it is important that you're confident in working independently but also being confident to lean on others.
In supporting our pro-equity journey, it’s vital you have an understanding and commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and an understanding of how that is put into practice in front line roles.
In addition, you will need to:
- Hold the right to work in Aotearoa
- Be committed to completing the National Certificate in Tamariki Ora – Well Child Services programme (funded)
- Hold a full, clean New Zealand drivers licence
